ESIcons: The Ups, Downs and Ups of FaZe Clan Apex Legends

FaZe Clan, a titan in the world of esports, first entered the Apex Legends scene with a roster filled with potential. The team faced a rapid collapse due to personality clashes and internal strife, a story often untold behind the glamour of esports. But what happens when an esports powerhouse like FaZe faces adversity?

FaZe Clan is a name that means something in the esports industry. To fans, to players, to industry veterans, and with teams in over 10 different esports, FaZe Clan embodies the meaning of a legacy team. Each one of those teams has a story, and this story is about FaZe Clan’s journey through the Apex Legends Global Series, led by Eric "Snip3down" Wrona. A story of ups and downs, of believing in yourself and finding a team that feels like family.

FaZe Clan, The Second Story

When FaZe Clan had first entered the world of professional Apex Legends with Snip3down, Mac “Albralelie” Kenzie Beckwith and Gregory “SlurpeeG” Sabia, everyone thought they were going to be unstoppable. But in esports as a whole, what works on paper doesn’t always work in reality.

Playstyles, personalities and more clashed quickly on the battlefield and the whole of the Apex Legends Global Series watched as the roster quickly turned to ash. But FaZe Clan wasn’t done and they still believed in what Snip3down, a veteran FPS player who got his start in Halo, could do. So they gave him the chance to build a second roster.

Alongside his new teammates, Joseph “Frexs” Sanchez and Josue “Phony” Daniel Ruiz, they took once more to the ALGS Pro League to see if this formula would finally work.

At the end of 2022 in the ALGS Pro League, with Albralelie and SlurpeeG, FaZe Clan came in 20th place. In 2023 at the Split Pro League, with Phony as the in-game lead, FaZe Clan took 5th place. Then again, in the Split 2 Playoffs, they’d place in the top 5.

This is the story of what it took to build the Apex Legends FaZe Clan of today and if they have what it takes to become Champions.
